Halasina hannina payasa (jackfruit payasa)

Halasina hannu/ jackfruit is a commonly available fruit in South Asia. There are multiple recipes prepared using jackfruit in Kerala and costal Karnataka region. The recipes are usually not available in hotels and tradinally passed on from generation to generation. I have nostalgic memories of jackfruit, since it requires a family to cut it. It was our family time. Thanks to jackfruit, nutritional requirements of many families have been taken care. Here I have given the south canara style of jackfruit payasa where hesarubele (broken moong dal) is also used.
Ingredients
Halasina thole (jackruit pieces) - 15 pieces
Hesarubele - 1/2 cup
Jaggery - 1/4 cup
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Choice of dry fruits (badam, pista, cashew, resin) - 15
Method
Cut the jackfruit into small pieces. Remove the seed.
Cook the hesarubele ( moong dal) using pressure cooker. Roast the dry fruits. Roast the resins in ghee.
In a thick bottomed pan, take ghee and saute the jackfruit pieces till soft. Add the cooked hesarubele. Add the jaggery and keep stirring. Add water if needed. Let it come to a boil. Remove it from heat and add the dry fruits.
You can either serve this hot or chill it in refrigerator and serve
